Mit seinem brandneuen Opus „100 Lock Grooves on a white 10 Inch“ hat DANGOLOID einen wunderbaren Beitrag zur fortschreitenden De-Evolution der Menschheit geliefert. 100 Mal exzentrische, wachrüttelnde Loops wahlweise mit Drone-, Noise- oder Abstract-Geschmack. Egal ob im Becher oder im Waffelhörnchen, immer strikt d.i.y und experimentell! 100 Kleinode und Kostbarkeiten; 100 kurzweilige Entdeckungsreisen und komprimierte Überraschungen.
Bei einem Lock Groove wird die Rille einer Schallplatte (s. dort) so gepresst, dass sie kreisrund wieder in sich selbst zurückläuft, wodurch die in der Spur enthaltenen Schallsignale schier endlos wiederholt werden; wieder und wieder, daher umgangssprachlich auch salopp „Endlosrille“ genannt.
Bei DANGOLOIDs 100 (in Worten: Ein-hun-dert !) Lock Grooves handelt es sich also um analoge, fortwährende bzw. unaufhörliche und damit letztlich zeitlose Loops, die ursprünglich dazu gedacht waren, dem Dj das Mixen zu erleichtern. Um es dem Schallplattenarbeiter aber nicht zu einfach zu machen, hat DANGOLOID das Vinyl bewusst in eleganten, schlichten Weiß gehalten. Überhaupt das Polyvinylchlorid: ein kreisförmiger Tonträger mit klassischen Durchmesser von 25,0 cm, Stereorille (15 µm) und praktischem Mittelloch, intern schallgedämpft auf unter 80 dBA (Frequenzbewertung am Ohr des Bedieners). Rasanz und Karacho bei allen Geschwindigkeiten (egal ob 33 1⁄3, 45 oder 78 Umdrehungen pro Minute), zweistufige epizyklische Reduktion je Track bei positiver Aufteilung des Sound-Flows…

Not too much info on Dangoloid, a Cologne based musician whose work seems to be based on repetitious miniatures. An earlier CD consists of 60 abstract one minute pieces, and now there’s this record whose title is also its description. Hard to know if I actually played all the loops, but the ones I did hear are all over the place. Some appear to be electronically generated, ranging from ambient to quite noisy. Others are based on field recordings that go from pastoral to urban to astral. There are also some voices and maybe some other instruments in spots, but the best way to hear this would be to have ten copies playing on ten turntables and sort of fiddle and fade between them. Still, it has been a good while since I’ve seen a new closed loop comp, and it does my heart good to know there are still cutting engineers with the chops to create them.

With his brand new opus „100 Lock Grooves on a white 10 Inch“, DANGOLOID has made a wonderful contribution to the ongoing de-evolution of humanity. 100 times eccentric, wake-up-shaking loops with either a drone, noise or abstract flavour. Whether in a cup or a waffle cone, always strictly d.i.y and experimental! 100 gems and treasures; 100 entertaining journeys of discovery and condensed surprises.
In a lock groove, the groove of a record (see there) is pressed in such a way that it runs back into itself in a circle, whereby the sound signals contained in the track are repeated almost endlessly; over and over again, hence the colloquial term „endless groove“.
DANGOLOID’s 100 (in words: one-hundred!) lock grooves are therefore analogue, continuous or incessant and therefore ultimately timeless loops that were originally intended to make mixing easier for the DJ. However, in order not to make things too easy for the record worker, DANGOLOID has deliberately kept the vinyl in an elegant, plain white colour. The polyvinyl chloride in particular: a circular sound carrier with a classic diameter of 25.0 cm, stereo groove (15 µm) and practical centre hole, internally silenced to less than 80 dBA (frequency evaluation at the operator’s ear). Rapidity and speed at all speeds (whether 33 1⁄3, 45 or 78 rotations per minute)
